The 1960 Franken Beetle project - The "Sickxty"
I happened to see this 1960 VW beetle sitting at a friends place. We always barter back and forth helping each other out as we can. I saw the potential this car had as it just sat there wasting away. We came to a decision, shook hands (pre COVID) and the car came home with me a few weeks later.
My vision for this car was simple, yet complex. I wanted to take the different elements from different styles and combine them into one project. Has it been done before? I’m sure it has but this was my opportunity to build what I think I want.
This unique build will have an extended front beam like a volksrod. It will have a taller stance and tough tires like a baja. It needs to be sleek where possible to have that race look. It will maintain a look between “pretty show car” and total rat rod.
So with that as a base line, I got to work!
Stay tuned into the YouTube channel for build updates and I will add in photos along the way below in the gallery.
Here is a before and after photo. This build defiantly evolved more than I thought it would.
With life issues, family and a full time job, this took exactly 3 years to complete.

I took the Sickxty on it's first long trip, about 80 miles one way to a VW show.
Here she is winning First Place in the baja category.
First large show was the Florida bug jam, 3 months after the finish of the build.
With over 800 vw's in attendance, we managed to pull off first place in our category.
Personally, I love the shows so I can spend time with friends during the weekend and sit around a camp fire and eat good food. It's being apart of the community, seeing old friends and meeting new ones that makes the weekend so amazing. Winning a trophy isn't on my priority list, it's just a bonus to an already amazing time.
That's right! Paul reached out and we spoke about an article on the Sickxty.
